This March and April, piggy backing on the success of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics Korea Tourism Organization's (KTO) – KoreaMICE Bureau organised a series of roadshows across America and Europe to promote Korea as an ideal destination for international conferences and meetings.
The UK was no exception and the host province Gangwon CVB, and the national Bureau KoreaMICE came and presented to an audience of over 100 pax at the Langham Hotel on 25 April 2018. Also gracing the stage was record breaking Olympian and gold medallist Lizzy Yarnold.
Mr Yang, Director of the Convention Team commented: ‘Interest in Korea for meetings and events is gaining popularity, and we are delighted that these roadshows have been a success. Since the Winter Games there has been a steady increase in the number of enquiries and meetings taking place in Korea’.
Korea is the most popular country for conventions according to the latest UIA Global Meetings Statistics report 2017, where Korea ranked number one with 997 meetings hosted in 2016.
‘Despite last year’s political tussle, the amicable efforts shown by North Korea and South Korea during the 2018 Winter Olympics have caught public attention.
KTO leverages this historic moment of unity to showcase Korea as a safe country and to invite international associations and groups to host meetings in Korea.’
The roadshow began in Vienna (March 20) and continued to Brussels (March 22), New York (April 3), Washington DC (April 5), and concluded in London (April 25).
The delegation included Olympians from the USA, officials from the Korea MICE Bureau, KTO London office, and the Embassy, plus representatives of Gangwon CVB, and selected venue, hotels, airlines, travel agencies and DMCs.
Apart from the roadshows, the Korea MICE Bureau also participates in major trade shows and conferences such as IMEX, The Meetings Show and IBTM.
