Hygiene & Safety Concept at Deutsche Messe

Deutsche Messe presents hygiene and safety concept: “We can stage trade fairs during Corona, too”

Deutsche Messe AG has presented a comprehensive hygiene and safety concept for the organisation of events under Corona conditions. The paper was sent to the Lower Saxony state government and is intended to serve as a guide for the State of Lower Saxony’s next Corona safety ordinance. The paper describes the conditions under which trade fairs can take place again in Lower Saxony beginning in September.

“We can stage trade fairs during Corona, too,” said Dr. Jochen Köckler, Chairman of the Managing Board, Deutsche Messe AG. “At our spacious and modern exhibition center, we will adhere to all social distancing rules, ensure comprehensive hygiene and identify & track contact persons.”

Defining a maximum number of people per square meter ensures the general minimum distance of 1.5 meters between people on the entire site. “We can control the density of people in the entrance areas, the exhibition halls and the conference areas in a targeted manner,” explained Köckler. “Routing systems also help maintain the necessary distance by defining specific routes.”

Consistent compliance with the Robert Koch Institute’s hygiene standards is the second pillar of the safety concept. Köckler: “The Hannover Exhibition Center already has an excellent infrastructure that guarantees the highest hygiene standards. Now we will add such measures as maximizing the cleaning and disinfection intervals and optimizing ventilation of entrances, halls and conference rooms.”

Mandatory registration of exhibitors, visitors and service providers enables targeted contact tracing in cases of suspected infection and ensures that the organiser can calculate the number of persons admitted each day of the event. Exhibitors must also register staff and all other persons who enter the exhibition stand for at least 15 minutes of consultation, negotiations or sales talks. This ensures that any necessary follow-up of Category 1 contact persons can take place in accordance with the requirements of the Robert Koch Institute.

Deutsche Messe developed the concept, which contains more than 50 individual measures, in close cooperation with the region of Hannover, the German Agricultural Society (DLG) and Mack Brooks Exhibitions. The latter two are organisers of EuroTier and EuroBLECH, respectively.

Hauke Jagau, president of the Hannover region, said, “It makes sense now to think ahead to September about hygiene concepts for larger events. Deutsche Messe and the Hannover region have jointly developed regulations for the organisation of trade fairs that take into account current hygiene requirements and, for example, the density of the public. The concept could help Lower Saxony to assess whether and to what extent trade fairs can take place again after August 31, 2020. Of course, everything depends on how the pandemic continues to develop.”

“With the safety concept, we are ready to resume trade fair operations in September,” said Köckler. “We look forward to providing our exhibitors with trade fairs that meet the highest standards in terms of lead generation as well as health and safety.”
