For last minute groups, or hospitality, ideas, it was recently announced that an EXTRA Palio horse race will be held this year in Siena, date set for Saturday October 20th, 2018. The last time a Palio horse race took place outside of July or August was in 2000. A unique opportunity to see this rare event.
Held in honour of the Virgin Mary, the bare back horse race usually takes place twice a year and only lasts, on average 75 seconds. Ten of the city’s seventeen contrade, or districts, are represented by a horse and jockey in each race.
