2021 hotel renovations and openings Slovenia

Following a year of calm, many renovated as well as new-built hotels have already or are still to open the door for guests in 2021.
The green Slovenian capital Ljubljana has recently undergone a mini-boom of new boutique hotels, converted from historic buildings and offering an exclusive retreat to individual guests and small groups. Meanwhile, the conference capacities of Ljubljana are being increased with openings of:

FOUR POINTS BY SHERATON 4* -  Following a complete renovation, which took 14 months, the new hotel wing was completed and the hotel re-opened for guests in March 2021, providing 122 new hotel rooms (the hotel now offers 236 in total), an indoor pool, covered and open parking space, a renovated restaurant and a bistro.

GRAND PLAZA HOTEL 5* - A new 5-star hotel catering to larger conferences will have 356 rooms on 20 floors and a roof-top restaurant offering perhaps the finest views of the city. Centrally located, Grand Plaza will have a conference capacity of up to 350 delegates, with 7 meeting rooms all with day light on the first floor, as well as the possibility to bring in cars, making it an attractive destination for automotive events. There is parking for 120 cars and a restaurant capacity of 600. The hotel is set for completion in 2021.

BARCELO OCCIDENTAL 4* - Only a stone’s throw away from Cankarjev Dom, one of Slovenia’s largest convention centres, a 4-star design hotel Barceló Occidental is being built. With 151 rooms and 2 meeting rooms spanning 30 and 40 square metres, the 4-star property will be an ideal base for conferences and events in the Slovenian capital. The opening is scheduled for the summer 2021.

THE ELEGANS HOTEL BRDO SUPERIOR 4*, BRDO ESTATE - In the Alpine region, under the mighty peaks of the Julian Alps, the complete renovation of the Brdo hotel is coming to an end, and a rebirth of four once-legendary hotels is well underway: Just 10 minutes from Ljubljana international airport lies the scenic Brdo Estate, covering more than 70 hectares of untouched nature with parks, forests, and lakes. It is the main protocol venue of the Slovenian government as well as the main venue for the state's diplomatic events, and has hosted the first official meeting of presidents George W. Bush and Vladimir Putin, and visits by Queen Elizabeth II, Pope John Paul II, and president Bill Clinton, among others.

Besides breath-taking scenery, the estate features a renaissance castle, a multifunctional and modern world-class Congress Center (9,000 m2), horse stables, a few exclusive outdoor venues, and a hotel that has undergone complete renovation and is welcoming the first guests end of June 2021. The renovated, modern hotel has more than 100 accommodation units, four conference halls, two boardrooms and a VIP Saloon.

BOHINJ HOTELS - In the Bohinj lake area, some 20-minute drive from the fairytale resort Bled, the four once-legendary hotels – the Triglav Aparthotel, Zlatorog, Bohinj and Ski Vogel hotel – were bought by the wealthiest Slovenian millennial Damian Merlak. He decided to have them completely renovated and restore their old glory, offering luxury in pristine nature. The Triglav Aparthotel was already completely renovated and now offers 27 bright, functional and modern apartments, whereas the other hotels are still under construction.

New openings in the other parts of Slovenia:

HOTEL MAESTOSO 4*, LIPICA - In the picturesque Karst region lies the Lipica stud farm. Founded in 1580, the stud farm has nurtured the tradition of breeding and training the aristocratic Lipizzan horses.

Amidst the peaceful green estate lies a modern Hotel Maestoso, that has recently undergone complete renovation. It features 139 carefully designed rooms and a congress centre with 11 conference halls, and can host up to 4,000 people with its numerous outdoor locations suitable for various business events. The opening is due in July 2021.

GRAND KOPER 4*, KOPER - Coastal town Koper is getting a stylish high-end boutique hotel Grand Koper. The hotel concept will be connected with city life, and the hotel will feature 60 rooms, a gym, spa, conference room and VIP restaurant. The opening is planned for 2021.

HOTEL SOČA, BOVEC - A brand new Hotel Soča is situated in a town called Bovec, located in the Soča Valley. It’s a modern, twenty-room property with fantastic views of the Julian Alps and easy access to active adventures like river rafting, kayaking, and ziplining.
